WE JUST RETURNED FROM TAMPA WHERE WE WERE HIRED TO PLAY FOR A PRE-SUPER BOWL PARTY. WE WERE HIRED BY A GROUP OF 4 GUYS, THEY PAID ALL AND I MEAN ALL EXPENSES. MY ONLY EXPENDITURE WAS 3.00 FOR A HOT DOG FROM A STREET VENDOR.WE WERE IN TAMPA FOR 3 DAYS, AND OUR TOTAL PLAYING TIME WAS ROUGHLY 3 HOURS. (AT NYES WE WOULD JUST BE WARMING UP). IT WAS NICE TO LEAVE -3 BELOW AND SPEND SOME TIME AT 75 ABOVE. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY WOULD LIKE US BACK AGAIN NEXT YEAR.

Just ordered from Jason and should be here in about 5 weeks or so. I know about Jasons work through reading another forum called the "Trumpetherald" and I had Jason modify my Yamaha 631 that I have had since high School. My biggest mistake in this idea however is that I decided to do a flugel horn first instead of a trumpet because I rarely get to play it on my present gigs. I do break it out for jazz though and it really sings with a darkness and warmth that I have heard from very few flugel ho…

Folks, I have had my long tone warm up and singing exercises for range development posted for free viewing on Youtube for about a year now. I have had folks request the music written out. I offer those for free to any private students wheter or not they are meeting personally in my studio or via my Webcam lessons from around the world. However, if you just want them written out (with Sibelius) I now have them on my Order Music page for only a couple of bucks. So if you don't wat to transcribe th…

Today (11/29/08) I had a tough gig with a rock band. In the afternoon, in preparation, I recorded a read through of the Hummel, 3rd movement. I need to do contrasting work during the day with the gigs I face in the evening, for sanity's sake. Just go to...

After quite a few requests to follow through on this, I have just finished testing my setup with a trumpeter/friend from Italy.
I am now doing live webcam lessons (driven by Skype) online, which means that I am not only accepting private students, I consider my client base to be worldwide.
I am also arranging to do video exchange lessons (for those with extreme scheduling problems) and webcam clinics.
Just go to http://www.nickdrozdoff.com and hit the Online Lessons tab and red up on the deta…

Okay so the thing I noticed tonight is that maybe tweaking some equipment issues (mouthpiece) that the muddiness could probably dealt with. Also I think by practicing going from middle to high through scales, etc. that things could clear up. It's just a weird thing that I've developed this way. I remember when I was studying with Chris he always told me to make sure that I balanced out my practicing. It's just really hard though when the bulk of what I'm playing is all this upper register stuff.…

Okay so this is what I'm now experiencing. The weird and annoying happening of having my sound get really clear from around third line-b on up. When I was a kid I always noticed that the lead players I listened to seemed to have a clearer sound in their upper register as compared to their middle/low registers. At this point I'm not sure how to attack the problem considering that the charts I play look like flute music! But ehh...at this point does it really matter. The only time I really have to…

So one of the strange parts about this gig is that even before you're contract is over you start setting up the next one. The thing is that I'm not sure where it is that I want to go next. There are some intriguing situations open, but I'm unsure what it would be like to step in one gig in particular that would offer some real challenges professionally. Basically would you as a player want to follow somebody who has a real strong rep? Numerous cat's have found themselves in this situation in our…

Well, in early march I was fortunate to be able to get a C trumpet from New York Trumpet Company. When the order was put in, Mr. Felix Vayser informed me that it would be roughly 6 months before I would receive my brand new Stage 1 California C in brushed silver plate.
Around the middle of July, I had contacted him to hear the progress of the horn. He informed me that a new plater had to brought in as there were some extenuating circumstances with the previous plater and that the he was unable…

My art show opened at STUDIO 27.28 in Philadelphia on August 2nd. Studio 27.28 is a brand new gallery started by my friend Jonathan Slingluff (an artist himself) ... it was a whirlwind trip with over 3100 miles of driving and not much time for sights... although we tried... haha
Here are some photos from the show! If you're in the Philadelphia area... my show will be up through Sept. 5th. They also have a stellar line-up for the rest of the season so do check it out! Studio 27.28 is located at…

So as professional players many times we find ourselves in a postion that requires going out on the road. What I find is a common thread/emotion each time I prepare to leave is that bit of self doubt. "Am I really good enough for this gig?" I use to believe that this was something that was just unique to me as a player but through conversations with other cats who do tours on the road some of them initially have this creep in to their conscienciousness (if for some reason that is spelled incorre…

Thanks to Jason Harrelson for opening up his shop,/ home for trumpet days. My son(s) and I had fun trying out the horns, playing duets with you and just chatting about horns and stuff. If you didn't get to his place you should he really knows his stuff. Thanks again. Tim Martin
