Folks, I have had some requests for this recently so I am putting the power points up for sale - cheap - 3 bucks each. I have two lectures that I do right now with more under development. One is the "Physics Of Brass as a Means of Self Improvement...

Playing Level:

My preferred equipment:
Modified/Custom Horn
I started playing trumpet:
June 1, 1965
My most memorable trumpet experience:
Playing on Maynard Ferguson's band. I also really enjoyed a nice gig with Dennis De Yound and Styx that has stuck with me. Finally, I got to work with members of the CSO on Verdi's Requiem at Orehestra Hall when the needed more trumpeters.
Personal trumpet aspiration:
Full time professional soloist in jazz and classical idioms. I particularly want to get my DMA in jazz performance. Right now my best shot looks like the University of Illinois. With my son starting college, my ability to do this depends entirely on funding and how much money I'll loose while on sabattical to do this. This is my BIG dream, though, right now.
About Me:
I am a professional Chicago area free lancer by night. I am also a high school physics teacher by day. I regard myself as leading a "dual career" lifestyle.
Interests:
I love family above all else. I also love music, fly fishing, fishing, bait cast fishing, fishing, and, well, you get it. I love good food and the camaraderie that only musicians can truly understand.
Heroes:
Clifford Brown, Dizzy, Maynard, Rafael Mendez, Doc, to name only a few. For me, this is too broad a question here.
Hope to find___________ in Trumpet City...
More trumpet camaraderie.

Long Tones and Singing Exercises plus Hummel Update

Folks, I have had my long tone warm up and singing exercises for range development posted for free viewing on Youtube for about a year now. I have had folks request the music written out. I offer those for free to any private students wheter or not they are meeting personally in my studio or via my Webcam lessons from around the world. However, if you just want them written out (with Sibelius) I now have them on my Order Music page for only a couple of bucks. So if you don't wat to transcribe th… Continue

Just added the Hummel...

Today (11/29/08) I had a tough gig with a rock band. In the afternoon, in preparation, I recorded a read through of the Hummel, 3rd movement. I need to do contrasting work during the day with the gigs I face in the evening, for sanity's sake. Just go to...

Live Online Webcam Lessons Now Available

After quite a few requests to follow through on this, I have just finished testing my setup with a trumpeter/friend from Italy.

I am now doing live webcam lessons (driven by Skype) online, which means that I am not only accepting private students, I consider my client base to be worldwide.

I am also arranging to do video exchange lessons (for those with extreme scheduling problems) and webcam clinics.

Just go to http://www.nickdrozdoff.com and hit the Online Lessons tab and red up on the deta… Continue

I really appreciate you taking the time to listen....and, of course, respond. Thanks for the nice comments. Nope...not on MySpace. I sent some of this to Felix a couple of years ago and perhaps he shared this with you. Who knows. Anyway.. thanks again for the comments. One of the humble things you like to say from time to time..."for what it's worth, coming from me"...well, that's worth a ton in my book. Best to you, sir...

Nick,
Greetings, this is the first time I ever had a chance to check out your playing---real nice! I know from experience that keeping your sound consistent in all registers is a challenge, you definitely have it nailed. I could never play a John Lynch mouthpiece, tried the lead 342 but it just never clicked (I even turned it around in case I was missing something ;) Again, really enjoyed your playing---the MF band back in the day must have been a blast (Stan Marks is a trip, played with him when he had the Dorsey band).
Cheers, Jason

Nick, I'm also a public school teacher and I'm wrapping up a DM at IU. I took the sabbatical (year of residency), as well as four summers away in Bloomington. With three young sons, I owe my wife everything for her sacrifice (the family went to IU only for one summer). I'm not finished, but I'm a qualifying exam and dissertation away. It was once just a dream for me, too. But after having kids, I realized that I'm enormously patient. And persistent. BTW, I've listened to your clips on YOUTUBE and elsewhere and I'm quite impressed. Best, John in NC

Thanks, Nick. Glad you liked the pics. Would love your thoughts on the clips I have up. This is the first time I've taken (or had) the opportunity to put anything up, so it's kinda fun. I am enjoying listening to the other folks on this site. Some really cool sounds.
