I understand about the price. However, that is at least in line with many horns out there...and WELL less than many others. No worries though...you have to spend what you have to spend. There's no reason you can't get a great horn for what you are able to spend. Keep checking with Felix as he gets trade ins all the time. As others have said...ebay also. Good luck...and I'll keep my eyes out also.
Hi, Kevin! Yup, I love the MV Getzen! I've played a lot of horns in my day and this is "the one" for me! It seems to combine the best of every horn I've ever played on, and left out the stuff I didn't like. And no, I'm not exaggerating!!! :) Good luck, the horn search is a crazy one (almost as bad as mouthpieces which I went through this past year!!!)
Hey..I totally understand! It is a cool time with many great designers out there. Why do you think I play what I do?!?! ha. I love all your questions...I just didn't want to see you all over the map and get too confused! ha. It is an important decision. Start giving some things a try...no matter what it is.. this will begin to give you a feel for what you are looking for.
hmmm first..I haven't been to the site in a while, so I apologize! I guess it's there! ha. Some of the pricing I knew about (very limited, mind you) was from several years ago...therefore, I wouldn't even venture a guess. Still, I don't "think" pricing had anything to do with numeric sequence. The obvious places to check with..of course, Mr Kato...and also Felix Vayser of NYTC...who carries this line. I know he would be glad to help with that...give you info... and may be able to do so more quickly.
Don't let your head spin with all this. ha. Get your hands on that Stomvi and give it a fair shot!
The "directional" part (to "me") wouldn't have anything to do with "where" you played (you alluded to outdoors vs indoors)...it really only had to do with where the sound is projected and how "broad" the sound may be. My comments on the All Around BSC horn were due to the fact that the sound was very targeted straight ahead. Great sound..no question... just targeted - almost like a foot or so wide - straight ahead. Great across the room projection. Just an observation on "that" model and one that someone else might just be fine with. We are all looking for "our" sound...and although that horn was fantastic in all aspects, that particular part of the sound wasn't as appealing "to me". The RF model I tried (not on the BSC site...and is now owned by a very good friend - on TC also...John Carmichael) addressed that issue completely. It plays totally great.. though from what I read - out of the price point you are looking for. The All Around might be a good choice to consider. Great horn for sure.
Not knowing what you currently are playing on... but if you like that Stomvi you mentioned and feel good on it...then it seems like a fine enough choice - especially considering what you are able to get your hands on to try. I hope that works great for you!
Kevin...I posted a note in your "Hunting for a horn" section. I wish you the best in your search..whatever you decide. Sounds like you are very excited about the trumpet. Good luck to you!
